Born and raised in the Mission District of San Francisco, Ethan Pringle was introduced to the wonders of nature before he could even walk. At a young age Hockey held is interest, with every waking moment devoted to the rink—that is until his curiosity led him into a climbing gym on a casual walk home from practice… clearly there was an instant connection and Pringle quickly traded in his skates for carabiners and a climbing harness. With an impressive list of climbing accolades along with big-name sponsors, his passion has taken him around the globe to some of the most challenging rock climbs and in competitions against the sport's best climbers.
EAT WELL. "I
am a true believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the
day, especially since I don't get very hungry while I'm focused on
climbing. I've been in France, so my morning routine consists of yogurt
with muesli, banana, dates and passion fruit. I'm a bit of a fruit bat
and I'd say passion fruit is one of my favorites. I also drink lots of
water…we're talking 1/2-1 liter per hour when i'm out climbing. My
sessions either end when I run out of day light or when I run out of
water... whichever comes first."
LIVE WELL. "Obviously my main activity is rock climbing and I'll do that until my body just can't handle it anymore, which I'm hoping is still a long ways off. I play some basketball when I'm at home at the park across the street from my house and I am obsessed with surfing. I try to get out in the water as much as I can when the waves are decent, but I am really not very good and divide my time in the water between trying not to look like a total idiot and staying out of people's way. However, when I can manage to catch some waves it's so addictive and the perfect cross-training for climbing (all upper body strength and balance). Being pushed by a wave is the best or second best feeling ever... second only to clipping the chains/topping out your project. For me, it's also important to keep the brain well exercised so a good, entertaining novel is perfect when I'm on the road."
